Erie’s Push For State

Dax Bradshaw Hayden Jackson, Writer

With an autumn chill descending upon the front range and dozens of Colorado high school football teams have turned to their helmets and pads. It’s state playoffs time for everyone but class 3A and the brackets are set.

As the Tigers go into their third week of playoffs and holding true they are looking to make it all the way to state.

With Erie’s recent win, 35-10, at Denver South, the team is looking to bring in a victory at this weekend’s game at Ponderosa.

Starting the season with a few losses from Ponderosa, Montrose, Broomfield and Loveland. Now with a six game winning streak with the overall 8-4 in the league, there’s hope from the team. Jordan Graff, one of the coaches at Erie high school, is trying to play week by week with the hopes of them eventually making it to the state championship.

The Erie Tigers are now holding onto the first in the league of their division. With the hopes of extending their lead in the division with the victory in Ponderosa, spirits will be high.

Erie did make it to the final last year being able to play at the empower stadium, which will remain at Mile high this year. The Tigers had lost to Chatfield, but that is not holding them back this year.

The team says they’re holding their heads high and wishful for the few weeks to come. But as Jordan Graff said there are plans to just play week by week, with the goal to win every game as they come, with hopes to keep the team spirit high. Graff stated, “That it was one of the hardest schedules in the state, there’s no doubt about it.”

The pressure of state is definitely sinking into the Tigers, but they’re still united as a team. With it all said and done the football season is coming to a close with the team so far only having four losses. With the past successful season, the football team is able to hold their heads high, with the talent of the players and coaching. with the team feeling as if support from not just the students but the staff at a very high school helps him feel more in spirit.

The finals are under the charge of CHASA, you’ll be able to find most of the upcoming brackets and games on their website. As well as additional information about team stats and live scores.
