Erie High School is not only known for its sports program but is also proud of its theater company, which is still upgrading to be standing ovation-worthy every performance.

Zoe Goldman, a senior at EHS and theater student says, “All 60+ of our company members spend anywhere from 15-25 hours a day working on the show…outside of rehearsals, many of us spend even more time rehearsing and working on projects at home.”

Behind every great performance takes time and effort to achieve. Erie’s theater company takes its jobs seriously with an immense amount of time inside and outside of the school.

Although a full theater company run by students is impressive, they always need some support from a well-experienced teacher and an adult. Luckily for EHS, drama teacher Scott Wright is well-skilled and accomplished; he describes,“I spent roughly 20 years in the professional theater world as a dancer, actor, singer, a director, and choreographer, and as a producer before entering into education.”

Many are excited for Erie High School’s upcoming show Catch Me If You Can” “The script, music, and story are so well crafted and our entire company has an electric energy and excitement for what we are working on that I have no doubt it will be one of the best things we have produced in years,” Goldman expresses.

For a musical to be well thought out and prepared for the time the company wants to show, it has to take years to get it ready to rehearse. Wright has been organizing Catch Me If You Can since the fall of 2021.

Wright wants to give all the opportunities he has to his students and is determined to make his theater program the best it can be,“I love the idea of bringing my professional theater experience into the classroom and exposing my students the opportunity to experience theater and hopefully instilling in them a love of the art.” Wright communicates.

The Erie High School Theater Company can’t wait to bring a fantastic well-hearsed, and overall, standing ovation-worthy show for the students of EHS in the spring of 2024.
