State spirit competitions are taking place this weekend on Friday, December 7th and finals will take place on Saturday, December 8th. The Erie Tigers Varsity cheer team will be competing after having a very successful season with a regionals win, along with their JV team winning JV state last weekend. The team will be performing their competition routine in hopes to win a state title.

Cheer has already won regionals and came away with a bid to nationals after winning UCA a few weeks ago.

The team performed a great routine tonight with only a small bobble in the ending structure of their pyramid.

Senior Sam Wessbecker says, “We performed to the best of our ability and it was the best routine we’ve put on the floor.”

The Tigers finished with 0 deductions on their routine.

They competed against 28 other teams in Class 4A. Erie is one of the final 6 teams heading into Saturday. The other five teams remaining are Thompson Valley, Palmer Ridge, Lewis-Palmer, Wheat Ridge, and Silver Creek (in order of qualification).

They will move on to the 4A finals tomorrow evening at 6:45 at the Denver Coliseum. They will compete third in their division in hopes to win a state championship, which would be the first for Erie of the school year.

The team currently stands in 1st place in Class 4A.

Sam Wessbecker says going into finals, “We just want to put another flawless routine on the floor and hopefully the outcome is in our favor.”
