Erie cruises over Mead

ERIE-

Erie (9-3, 4-0) slugged their way to a 17-7 win over Mead (0-6, 0-5) on Tuesday in 5 ½ innings a day after being outslugged by Fossil Ridge and dropping their first game to an in-state opponent.

The first inning was the only bad one for Erie. Mead hopped out to a quick 5-0 lead, but they wouldn’t get much more.

Erie began piling on in the 2nd. The double-fest began as Erie batted around. 5 different players doubled and they drove in 7 runs to take a lead they wouldn’t give back.

After giving up a run in the top of the third, they continued to pile on in the bottom. The six-run inning was capped off by a two run moonshot that cleared the left field fence from Mady Vaughan.

Alyssa Barnett gave up another run in the top of the fourth. That would be Mead’s final run of the night.

Kat Sackett broke through a minor slump (for her) with a massive two run jack to highlight the fourth inning for Erie. They added four runs to make the final score 17-7.

Megan Loveland got three quick outs to end the game.

Erie will play next on Tuesday as they travel to Frederick for the first of two league games with their rival.
