Erie falls in second game of doubleheader

In the second game of the doubleheader, Erie was the road team and Mustang the home team. Like the first game, Erie went 3 up and 3 down in the first inning. Unlike the first game, Mustang didn’t.

Megan Loveland walked the first two hitters to start off the bottom of the first. A fielding error by Mady Vaughan put runners on the corners and let one score. The two runners then pulled off a delayed double steal that ended with both runners safe, at home and at second. An RBI single made it 3-0 Mustang before Loveland struck out a batter for the first out of the inning. She then gave up a double and a single to make it 5-0 Mustang. After a stolen base, Kambry Fraser missed a catch allowing the runners to move up to second and third. Loveland then got out of the jam and the inning by getting back to back groundouts.

In the top of the second, Jen Williams put Erie on the board with her third homer of the year.

After getting a flyout to start the bottom of the inning, a single, walk, and error loaded the bases. Vaughan made a great snag of a line drive to save two runs, but they would cross anyway after a walk and a wild pitch. A groundout ended the inning with Mustang up 7-1.

Kaylee Armstrong started the third by grounding out. Sydney Parrish then had one of the best at bat’s of the night, working a walk on over 10 pitches. Mustang’s pitcher balked her over and then hit Vaughan on the first pitch of her at bat to put runners on first and second. Teagan Brand ran out an infield single to load the bases. Next, Kat Sackett struck out. But with two outs, Sloane Quijas cleared the bases with a 3 run double making it 4-7.

Alyssa Barnett came in in the bottom of the inning to pitch. She had a fast inning, walking one and getting three quick outs.

Lauren Russell doubled to start the fourth, but was caught in a rundown and tagged out after Fraser got on base. Armstrong doubled Fraser home to make it 5-7. Vaughn singled her home to make it 6-7.

In the bottom of the inning, a single, wild pitch, and groundout led to an RBI single to make it 6-8.

In the top of the 5th, Fraser singled Quijas home to make it 7-8. Erie wouldn’t score again.

Barnett gave up a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth.

The game was called after the top of the 6th due to it being 10:00 at night.
