Spring Semester Student Government Update

Spring+Semester+Student+Government+Update

As the Erie students settle in for the 2nd semester of this school year, Student Government, also known as STUGO for short, is busily preparing for the numerous events they have planned for this spring.

Currently, STUGO has planned a spirit week this past week to raise money through activities and fundraisers for Make-A-Wish Colorado. EHS Wish Week was mainly planned by Senior and Student Body Vice President, Dax Bradshaw, “I was the main person who contacted a lot of the businesses that were involved,” Bradshaw said.

This is Erie High School’s first year working with Make-A-Wish Colorado for this type of event , Senior and STUGO president, Mia Martinez added, “we get to help raise money for kids..that have these health issues, so it’s been super cool getting to work around the community.”

Aside from Wish Week, STUGO is also preparing for the Student Government elections for the 2024-2025 school year. Because the process for these elections is so complicated, preparations begin months in advance, “we’re working on applications for next year…so that’s obviously a process in itself because you have to tediously go through who you think is going to actually bring something to the class,” Bradshaw comments.

STUGO elections don’t take place until several weeks from now, so the process for the students running and advertising the election has just begun. Social Media Manager and Junior Melanie Bell comments, “right now, I’m just posting about all of the events along with my committee, and we’re also getting ready for election season which is really cool.”

In addition to both of these events, STUGO is also currently planning a lot of the events surrounding prom, which is in April. Martinez states, “we don’t do prom, but we do all the events leading up to prom so like powderpuff and basketball games.” Junior and STUGO Secretary Kennedy Gorske adds, “It’s kind of more of a Seniors and Juniors kind of week, so there’s more Senior and Junior activities and we’re doing powderpuff again, but this year it’ll be more efficient because we won’t hopefully have that weather.”

As STUGO prepares for an exciting semester full of fun events for our student body, EHS students are nothing short of thrilled of what’s to come for the home stretch of the 2023-2024 school year.
