Avengers: Infinity War Spoiler Free Review

Ten years of Marvel Movies Lead to this True Spectacle of a Film

Alex Van Brocklin, Senior Staff Writer

The game has been changed with the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the latest installment, Avengers: Infinity War. Not only has this movie began to break opening weekend box-office records, but also strays away from the usual Marvel formula. Avengers: Infinity War’s unique plot line and great character arcs are not even the main highlights from this true superhero masterpiece. Trailer available here.

The movie starts off following the events that had happened in Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther. The main Villain Thanos starts off by attempting to invade the last ship of Asgardians, coming in right where we last saw the lonesome ship. The plot then starts with the main villain of the movie, Thanos, trying to capture all six of the legendary Infinity stones, to bring balance to the universe. By this, he wants to destroy half of all life in the universe, thus bringing what he thinks to be complete balance. From here, various Avengers meet up with each other, including the Guardians of the Galaxy, and team up to try and destroy Thanos before he becomes too powerful. As it should be known, this is part one of a massive two part Avengers movie, and as we could expect, there are many plots happening at the same time.

With many things happening at once, it is easy to get lost in translation, but this movie really makes you aware of what is happening without confusing you. The four main plot lines are all extremely interesting and important to the overall goal of the movie, one showing the preparation of Earth for the arrival of Thanos, another building a new weapon that has a realistic chance of destroying the villain, one other that follows a small party who bring the fight to him on his home planet, and lastly, Thanos’ plot line that dives into his background and personal affairs. The Thanos’ plotline is really well done, and shows a good portion of this “all powerful” villain being pretty vulnerable and having a heart. The other do a good job of showing importance and have great pacing. Despite this movie being two and a half hours long, there is no downtime in this movie, as the story starts right away, and keeps you interested the entire way. It also goes by like a snap of a finger and feels like a half an hour.

Avengers: Infinity War also gives great character arcs to many of its key characters. The immense growth of Doctor Strange is definitely one of the lead arcs and one of the best performances of this movie. Another greta character arc is would go to Scarlet Witch, and really shows how much she has grown since the beginning of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Now we are aware that she is no longer a child and turns out to be an extremely important toward the last act of the movie. Acting wise, the entire movie is completely stolen by Josh Brolin’s voice acting for Thanos. From the opening scene we are given a true introduction and he is just incredible to watch. Apart from him you have some of the sarcastic tones from Iron Man, the leader aroma from Black Panther and Captain America, which includes an amazing shot of them marching together, along with quirkiness from Bruce Banner, general rude humor from the Guardians and the teenager attitude of everyone’s favorite “friendly neighborhood hero” Spider-Man.

The movie is very good in the first two acts, but the last act is where it turns into something truly special. Unbelievable action followed up by legitimate serious moments and unexpected turns make this not only a great superhero film but a great movie in general. Never before have I walked out of a Marvel movie more upset, but excited than this movie left me. There are without a doubt, some tough moments to watch, as this movie has been ten years in the making, and it should be assumed that something big was going to happen, and it does not disappoint. There are numerous extreme emotional moments, between the characters and the events in this movie, so be prepared. The pure spectacle of this movie, is everything that Marvel fans had been waiting for, and like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the hardcore fans will appreciate it even more than the normal fans. Ten years lead up to this, and it exceeds expectations, being a comical, emotional, fun and entertaining masterpiece that will go down as one of the best  superhero movies of all-time in my book.
