Festive movies and shows popping up on the TV screen when scrolling through Netflix is a sure sign that December is here. Whether people are looking for a classic holiday movie or a new binge-worthy show, it has all kinds of options for every kind of person.
One classic Christmas movie that can be watched on Netflix is White Christmas, a 1954 musical comedy starring Vera-Ellen, Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, and Danny Kaye. Throughout the movie, four singers perform to raise money for a World War II commander who is struggling to keep his inn up and running.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas is another classic holiday movie available on the platform. Although the original 1966 version is not included, the 2000 live-action remake is. With Jim Carey as the Grinch, it brings the magic of Dr. Suess’s children’s story to life.
Netflix has several newer festive movies for those who prefer a more modern take on the holiday season. One such movie is The Princess Switch, a romantic drama with Vanessa Hudgens. She plays two look-alike characters, one who is a duchess, one who is a regular person from Chicago. They switch places and fall in love with each others’ significant other.
Another popular modern holiday movie is The Christmas Chronicles, where Santa, played by Kurt Russell, attempts to save Christmas with the help of two siblings, Teddy and Kate Pierce.
For those looking to binge-watch a festive series, there are plenty of options. One such show is The Great British Baking Show: Holidays, where contestants from the normal version of the series face off in a holiday-themed baking competition.
People who do not celebrate the season have plenty of options for watching on Netflix, as December brings with it the release of new regular shows and movies.
The Prom, the movie adaptation of the Tony-nominated musical starring Meryl Streep, James Corden, and Nicole Kidman, features a variety of dance numbers songs, such as “Tonight Belongs to You”, “Love Thy Neighbor”, and “You Happened”. The Prom was added to Netflix on December 11th and is currently ranked number four on Netflix’s top ten movie list.
