On Friday morning at 9:30, Dr. Don Haddad, the superintendent of St. Vrain Valley Schools, held a press conference along with the Boulder Valley School District and Boulder County Health.

The press conference, streamed on Boulder County Health’s facebook page, was held to provide answers to the community about COVID-19 (commonly known as the coronavirus) in Boulder County, as well as information about the closures of schools in the area.

The main point of safety from Jeffery Zayach and Dr. Chris Urbina, senior officials from the Boulder County Department of Health, was: If you’re sick, stay home. Zayach said that “We must all commit to staying home when you’re sick. That is the number one way to prevent the spread of this disease.”

At the moment, there are not enough testing kits in Boulder Valley to test everyone who may have come in contact with COVID-19.

The main piece of information directly related to St. Vrain is that the district will not implement online learning until after spring break, should it be necessary. Dr. Haddad said that “We will not have online learning because we (planned to) have next Friday off, and then we have spring break, so we have four days next week. What we wanted to do is give families an opportunity to get their plans in place, to get daycare situated, do all those things, before we started, and then we’ll have spring break.

“After spring break, if we’re still required to be out of school, is when we would start the online learning.”

Boulder Valley will also not implement online learning until after spring break.
