Preview: Erie’s Own Valentine’s Tradition
February 12, 2020
Love is in the air as Erie High School continues its long standing tradition of Singing Valentines.
“It’s going to spread joy… [and] make people feel like they’re loved and [that] they have friends,” elaborates Thalia Burd, the new Choir teacher coordinating the event. Singing Valentines has been a tradition at Erie for about nine years. They were started by Janay Bird, and are now being carried on by the new Mrs. Burd.
On Thursday, February 13th, eight groups of choir students will go around the school and sing songs and give gifts to students whose friends or lovers bought them a Singing Valentine. Avery Pekny, who is one of those singing, says to expect, “a lot of fun, embarrassing songs.”
There are two types of Singing Valentines; the pink card and the purple card. The pink card costs $3 and includes a song of your choice and a card. The purple card costs $5 and includes a song of your choice, a card, candy, and flowers. These valentines were sold at lunch and after school to students.
Whether you want to embarrass your friends, or show your love for a partner, Singing Valentines is for you.
