Disney Plus is Taking Over

Evan Hutson, Staff Writer

Everyone loves to binge watch and stream shows. In November, Disney came out with a huge new way to stream movies and shows with their own Disney Plus.

Disney Plus offers shows and movies for everyone. If you are younger, you can watch shows like Handy Manny or Mickey Mouse. There are even movies like Hannah Montana or shows like The Suite Life on Deck for older kids. If you’re a teenager, Disney Plus is making their own series based off of movies like Star Wars and High School Musical

Sophomore Kendyl Tyson said “I love coming home from a long day at school and then being able to relax by turning on Disney Plus. It has all my favorite shows and movies from when I was little.”

Disney Plus can also be a great way to enjoy time with your family. It has movies like Toy Story or Cars that are movies that everyone in the family can enjoy.

“My family and I on Sunday nights will sit down as a family and watch movies. This Sunday we all sat down and watched WALL-E,” commented sophomore Jett Cooper.

Disney Plus allows you to stream Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and NatGeo. You can see new and old titles on Disney plus. It’s available for $6.99/month. You can also get or a bundle costing $12.99/month that includes Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN Plus.

Disney Plus even offers The Simpsons and the newest Marvel movies such as Avengers: Endgame. Disney is learning that one huge way to get more people to fall in love with their new streaming service is through their original series. We saw Netflix’s original series like Stranger Things and Peaky Blinders blow up and bring more views to Netflix. If Disney Plus wants to live up to the hype, than their own original series such as Encore and The Mandalorian better keep raking in the big views.

Disney Plus still has huge competition with other streaming apps like Netflix, which recently announced their collaboration with Nickelodeon to form “a new, multi-year output deal to produce original animated feature films and television series.”

Disney Plus did not disappoint, with over 22 million mobile app downloads within the first month of its release. Not only is the new streaming service living up to expectations, but it is setting the bar for other streaming services. Let’s hope Disney Plus can pull through and bring the hype in 2020!
