Ten Alternative Rock Songs To Vibe To
Ten unique sounds to capture your intrigue.
January 23, 2018
Music is such an incredible thing. You might listen to reggae when you are happy, metal when you are not, and pop when you are in the car or at a school dance. But what do you listen to when you are in that funky mood you can not quite place? Here are ten songs to hopefully satisfy that unplaceable mood.
10) The Man – The Killers
The Man is a part of The Killer’s album Wonderful Wonderful, released in 2017. The Killers have a unique style of music, which can be heard in each of their songs. The Man is a great song for a lazy evening by yourself.
9) No Roots – Alice Merton
First – Alice Merton’s voice has a distinct musical texture, and it is really beautiful. No Roots really magnifies her vocal signature. No Roots inspired an independent vibe, and the lyrics are just random enough to satisfy those unidentifiable moods that hit us all at some point.
8) Two High – Moon Taxi
Two High has a deep and thoughtful feel, which I personally like for those moments of solitude or introspection; often both. Two High combines both a calming rhythm, and a bold chorus.
7) Time To Pretend – mgmt
I have to give it up to mgmt for creative lyrics when they made Time To Pretend. While this song is definitely edgy, it also has a an intoxicating rhythm which easier gets stuck in heads. Time To Pretend is a great song for those counterculture moments that sometimes bubble up within us.
6) Sit Next To Me – Foster The People
Sit Next To Me does not exactly sound like a rock song; probably because Foster The People does not exactly sound like a rock band – but I promise it is. Sit Next To Me has a hyped up feel that is balanced out by calm bass undertones. The chorus is my favorite part. What is yours?
5) Broken – Lovelytheband
While the Broken appears to initially have a sad vibe, the lyrics are something that are actually quite easy to relate to, and inspire a personal connection. Recently, Broken by Lovelytheband was the most requested song on radio channel 93.3.
4) Cardiac Arrest – Bad Suns
Bad Suns songs are almost as awesome as their album covers. Cardiac Arrest is one of those songs one could easily listen to and not give a second glance, but after listening to it a few times, it really captured my attention and now it is one of my favorites.
3) I’m Good – Mowgli’s
I’m Good is the most upbeat song on this list, and for good reason. This song makes you want to get up and dance on every continent. I’m Good has an incredibly vibrant sound, and emotionally connects with its listener. This song is great to listen to with friends or without friends.
2) Live In The Moment – Portugal. The Man
Live In The Moment is a vibrant but mellow song, fantastic for doing homework, working out, or just riding the wave of music. Live In The Moment has multiple layers to the song, which I think gives it awesome musical texture which contributes to the interest of the listener.
1) Self Esteem – The Offspring
The Offspring is a Grunge band of the 90’s; essentially the other half of Grunge, along with Nirvana. The Offspring is a bit more positive than Nirvana, and is incredibly chill for Grunge music, which is why it is on this list. Self Esteem just seems like a great song for teenagers, you know? The chorus is my favorite part. What is yours?
Here are some of my favorite Alternative Rock songs that I hope you can enjoy as well. All of these songs are played on radio channel 93.3, although some are played more frequently than others. You feel my struggle. Enjoy!
