December 7, 2017
Christmas is just around the corner, whether you celebrate that or a different holiday, it’s always fun to create something festive during this time of year! And what’s better than to decorate your home to give it a more festive mood?
The first do-it-yourself project can simply adorn your counters or spice up a table as a centerpiece. For these mini Christmas trees, you will need styrofoam cones (in any size), green yarn, hot glue, colored beads, construction paper, and a toothpick. Start by gluing down one end of yarn on the cone and tightly wrap the yarn around the cone until there are no gaps left. Pull tight and cut the end of the string and glue it down. To make ornaments, glue down tiny beads in various colors. Lastly, for the bright, yellow star at the top of the tree, cut it out of construction paper and stick it into the styrofoam by gluing it on to a toothpick.
The next craft is a cute snowman ornament, you will need an old lightbulb, white paint, elmers glue, white glitter, orange paper, a black marker, and small twigs. Start by painting the light bulb and letting it dry. Once dry, cover it in elmers glue and add a lot of glitter. Let dry. Now, using a glue gun, attach the twigs to the side of the light bulb and then cut out a triangle from the orange paper for the nose. Finally, draw on the face and buttons and then you have a cute ornament for your tree!
The final craft is a snowflake garland that you can hang from the ceiling. You will need white paper, thread, scissors, and tape. First you must create your snowflakes, this is a process of its own and you can find many tutorials online. But, you will need to make sure your paper is a perfect square in order to create a triangular shape. Once you have a triangle, you can practically cut out any pattern for your snowflake, so get creative! Now that you have a couple paper snowflakes, simply tape them to the string that is the length of your liking. Now you’re ready to hang it up from your ceiling, making it as though it’s snowing in your own house!
As you can see, it’s easy to decorate your home for the holidays and a fun way to spend free time or to bond with family. Happy Holidays!
