In January and February, hundreds of high school and college teams alike go to UDA and UCA Nationals held in Florida. This year, The University of Colorado Boulder’s spirit program experienced a mix of triumph and disappointment at the 2025 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships, held in January at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.
CU Boulder’s cheer team entered the competition with strong momentum, particularly in the Small Coed Division IA. During the semifinals, the team achieved an impressive raw score of 87.5, with only a one-point deduction, totaling an event score of 86.5, which placed them first and marked their first-ever advancement to the finals in this division.
However, the finals proved challenging. The team encountered difficulties with their stunts, leading to three full deductions. Their final raw score was 81.4, resulting in an event score of 78.4 and a ninth-place finish .
The team also competed in the Division IA Spirit Program Game Day category. This is CU’s first year competing in this category. This category combines the dance team and the cheer team for a big game day routine. They narrowly missed advancing to the finals, finishing sixth in the semifinals with a score of 89.7667 .
CU Boulder’s dance team, competed in the Division IA Jazz category. They share in an Instagram post, that in the middle of the season they decided to completely change their routine including their song. This sets the team apart from others because most teams learn their routines early in the season and don’t change it much. In the preliminaries, they achieved a score of 89.5238, placing them 11th in their group and from there, they were able to advance to semifinals.
While the outcomes were mixed, CU Boulder’s spirit teams demonstrated resilience and dedication. After nationals, both teams are seen cheering at basketball games continuing to show support for their school.
Both the CU Dance and Cheer teams delivered strong routines and earned solid scores. While UDA and UCA nationals grow more competitive each year, their performance reflects the talent, dedication, and potential to reach even greater heights in seasons to come.
