As the spring sun set over the high school field, the energy of Powderpuff 2025 came to life. For many seniors, the annual game isn’t just about flag football — it’s about ending the year with memories, laughter, and maybe a few surprise touchdown passes.
Though Megan was new to the quarterback role, she wasn’t alone in facing firsts. Many of the players were also stepping onto the field for the first time, learning plays, strategies, and the rhythm of the game in just a few short practices. Despite the challenges, the team quickly found a groove — fueled by shared laughter, supportive coaching, and a healthy dose of competition.
For Megan Funk, signing up for Powderpuff was a decision driven by curiosity and ambition. “I heard really good things about it from previous juniors and seniors,” Megan said. “I’ve always wanted to play quarterback in an actual game, so I took my opportunity.”It was her first time playing football, and she admitted the learning curve was steep.“It was kind of a lot. I didn’t really know where to look, so I honestly just threw it every time,” she laughed. But despite the chaos and nerves, Megan had a moment she’ll never forget: “Probably throwing a touchdown was my favorite experience.”
Behind the scenes, senior Cole Powell took his role as coach seriously — but not too seriously.“I looked at it as an opportunity for the girls to have fun and enjoy themselves in the final days of senior year,” he said. His coaching philosophy blended fun with structure. “My priorities were seeing who could catch, run, and throw. Then after that, we separated them accordingly. Defense — anyone could play anywhere — so I made sure to try and rotate as much as possible at every position.”The game was more than a showcase of skills. It was about friendships, trying something new, and celebrating the end of an unforgettable chapter. As students walked off the field — some for the first and last time in cleats — there was a shared sense of pride, joy, and nostalgia.
Whether it was Megan Funk throwing her first touchdown or Coach Cole helping lead a group of friends through their final moments as high schoolers, Powderpuff 2025 proved one thing: sometimes, the best plays are the ones where everyone just has fun.
For many, Powderpuff was more than just a one-day event — it was a celebration of school spirit and a reminder of how sports can bring people together.
