Erie high school students are filled with excitement for the holiday season, with this comes the classic tradition of watching your favorite holiday movies. A recent poll conducted throughout Erie high school revealed some surprising favorites among holiday classics.
EHS sophomore Noah Hettlinger, was quick to share his top pick, The Christmas Chronicles. “ It has everything from action and humor to holiday cheer,” Hettlinger claims, further explaining why this movie exceeded the top of his list. This holiday classic starring Kurt Russell as a humorous Santa Claus earned 17 votes throughout the poll, showing students’ love for this creative twist of a Christmas movie.
Aubriella Chubbs, another member of the sophomore class, expressed her similar taste in Christmas movies. Her favorite being National Lampoon‘s Christmas Vacation, a comedy starring Chevy Chase, disaster of a holiday host as Clark Griswold. Chubbs reiterated that the movie “is so funny and relatable considering how everyone gets frazzled to see family around the holidays”. Topping Christmas Chronicles, Christmas vacation reached a staggering 27 votes on the list.
At Erie high school, there were five final contenders for top Christmas movie. This included The Christmas Chronicles, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Home Alone One, Jim Carey’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Elf.
Eli Griffin, EHS student expressed, “Will Ferrell’s performance was truly amazing and when I think Christmas, I think of this movie.” Griffin stated, explaining how the lovable Buddy the Elf has always been a source of joy and laughter for many during the holiday season. “It makes me laugh no matter how many times I’ve seen it and has just enough funny lines to keep me entertained.”
Meanwhile, Ellie Clark, shared why the Grinch is the obvious choice,. “ It’s super funny and just a classic Christmas story. The Grinch is a character everyone relates to Jim Carrey, and he really brings him to life in this film. It’s a must watch for my family and I every year.” The Grinch is the perfect mix of humor while also making room for a heartfelt story that’s subject to being at least 32 students favorite Christmas movies.
Home Alone snuck into the lead with 34 votes, becoming Erie high school’s favorite Christmas movie. Edwards went on to state this was “a movie she had always grown up with and is rightfully her favorite.”
From mischievous movies such as Home Alone to hilarious comedies such as Elf, the EHS Christmas debate isn’t coming to an end anytime soon. Yet one thing is for certain, these movies bring families together every season to enjoy their favorite parts of Christmas cheer.
