In a new academic year at Erie High School, are some new changes in the student government. With fresh leadership, both the students and staff are excited to build on their strong foundation and embrace new strategies to make this year one for the books.
“My favorite part of being in Stugo is planning fun activities for Homecoming. It’s great to see all the pieces come together and know that we’re creating something memorable for everyone.” Says Junior Georgiana Jones, a general member of Student Government. After another successful homecoming the question is, what other types of activities and events are in store for this year?
This year, Erie Stugo has a new teacher. Ryan Salzeider has been a teacher at Erie for 3 years as an English teacher. Along with being a new teacher to the course he is bringing in fresh ideas and helping ambitious student leaders fulfill their goals.
One of those goals being a mascot. “One of the first challenges we faced as Stugo this year was getting the mascot, we really thought it would be a fun thing to have at games and to keep school spirit.” Says Junior Emily Park who is also a general member of Stugo. Salzeider tries hard to make sure that members of Stugo can reach their goals. “We have a lot of ideas, and the leaders have a lot of ideas, I’m just here to help them be successful.” Salzeider adds.
Melanie Bell, Senior, has been in charge of all things social media when it comes to Erie Stugo for 2 years now. “I love running the Stugo social media because it helps get the word out about games, activities, fundraisers, and many other things. It’s so fun to make the TikToks and make relatable content for all the students at Erie,” Bell stated.
Stugo is dedicated to filling the 2024-2025 school year with tons of events and activities, and of course, school spirit. With a committed team of student leaders and Salzeider it is clear that the foundation is set for a successful year filled with school spirit and memorable events.
As Jones, Park, and Bell work alongside the other members of Stugo you can see just the amount of dedication and creativity it takes to be in Erie Stugo. Although he is new to leading the Erie Stugo, Salzeider has quickly proven to be a wonderful addition to the team. His fresh perspectives and support for the student-led initiative have helped Stugo thrive, ensuring that their ideas can turn into reality. With his guidance, this year’s student government is on track to make a lasting impact on the student body.
