The Erie High School Lacrosse team is working their way through the 4A lacrosse playoffs. After receiving a bye in 1 and routing Middle Park in round 2 the Tigers are getting closer and closer to a state championship.
Entering Tuesday night the Tigers were coming off a huge 17-1 win over Middle Park in round two. The team was feeling good and prepared for their quarterfinals matchup against Dakota Ridge. “Dakota Ridge was a tough quarterfinal matchup but it got us prepared for the next round.” Senior Liam Conners said.
After last season’s disappointing loss in the state championship game. The Tigers entered this season more motivated than ever. Seth Mendenhall, another senior on the team says, “The loss only gave us more motivation to come back and win it this year.” After their win over Dakota Ridge the Tigers advance to the semifinal, just one win away from the state championship game. They continue to march closer and closer to a ring.
Before they can battle for a ring, Erie will need to get past Battle Mountain. A strong team entering the playoffs with a 15-2 record. But the Tigers feel confident in their abilities. “The whole team is just focused on the team ahead and not getting ahead of ourselves and looking toward the state.” Charlie O’Brien, senior player on the team, talked about the team’s mindset entering the semifinals.
With the season winding down all players have the same goal, “Win state” a common saying from many players on the team.
