Marta Quandt has been a part of Erie High School for six years now, she started off at Black Rock Elementary and worked there for nine years. Marta is very hardworking and has dedicated several years of her life to this school and its community.
Quandt is very passionate about Erie and her job, she shared, “I was actually really excited to come to Erie because I used to be a former student, so I graduated from Erie and both my kids attended here when I started.”
Because Marta grew up in the community of Erie, she explains that she loves her job specifically because she has gotten close with many families and says, “I’ve gotten to know a lot of them when they’re growing up and it’s great to see them when they were little and now I get to see them as young adults.” Taking a moment to acknowledge the joy she found in witnessing growth and development between the students she interacts with daily.
Marta has contributed to the community on several occasions, “I started out actually working for the town of Erie, and then I switched and really tried to get on at the elementary school where they were attending and then it just really took off from there, and I’ve been with the school district ever since then so going on 16 years now.” Marta has been a part of not only Erie high but Blackrock elementary and the community/town in general.
Marta’s commitment to staying engaged with the school community goes hand in hand with the work life balance. “Work life and home life are kind of a good balance, I love to go to the football gates and be a part of the community, so it’s kind of a balance of both. I definitely try not to take work home but I would say that I’m always one that really wants to still stay connected.”
Along this journey Quandt has made many friends especially with fellow coworkers like Courtney Stanesa who works just a couple steps away from Martas desk. Stanesa is very passionate about being Quandt’s friend, “We’ve known each other for probably 12 years now and I’ve been very lucky to always be able to rely on her to listen when I need her and to always just be there for everything.” Stanesa expressed the relatability and support Marta consistently offers.
Stanesa looks up to Quandt’s resilience and strength “Something interesting about Marta that a lot of people may not know is that she is a cancer survivor. Quandt has overcome lots of obstacles in her life but I would probably guess that she would say overcoming cancer would be the strongest thing she’s ever had to do in her life.”
Quandt’s impact on those around her is very evident, Stanesa emphasized the depth of their connection, “If I need to vent, if I need to laugh, if I need to do anything Marta has become my go-to and, I am very grateful that I’ve worked with her side by side everyday.” giving further insight into their friendship.
Stanesa exclaimed, “Marta is a huge asset to Erie High School, she knows I’d say 80% of the kids in this building, she knows their families, she knows their tendencies, she knows what kids need and when they need it. We’re very lucky to have somebody like Marta in our front office.”
Marta Quandts journey from being a former student to a beloved staff member reflected the connectedness of the Erie community. Marta is more than just a tracker for attendance, she’s overcome big challenges, built relationships, and left a mark on the community and those she encounters.
