Erie High’s senior Addie Osborne takes on her final year of high school with her teammates and coaches cheering her on as she approaches the next part of her career.
While Osborne is known for being a friend and athlete that will light up a room wherever she goes, most know her from her incredible softball career. Starting out with rec ball and eventually moving to club, Osborne currently plays for the Erie Varsity softball team as well as her club team, the Colorado Stars.
With a lot of Osborne’s time being consumed by softball, she understands the true meaning of being a part of a team that acts like a family. “Some of my teammates are some of my best friends and they will be for the rest of my life, and it’s so cool because you can just count on them for anything.” She emphasizes her love for not only the sport but the community that surrounds it.
Competition and leadership are two key components to a successful and motivated player, and Osborne does not fall short of those aspects. To create an overall good community in an athletic atmosphere, It not only takes a player that is motivated to always be better, but a coach that can support their players through good and bad days.
Tobin Echohawk is the current Erie High varsity softball coach, and though it’s only her second year coaching at Erie, the players have made deep connections with Echohawk and value everything she does to be a resourceful coach. Osborne notes that being a student athlete can be difficult to juggle, but “Coach E makes sure we have everything done and she provides us with tutors and allows us time to get help if we need it.”
With someone as talented as Osborne playing on the team, even her coaches admire her work ethic and strong leadership qualities. “Obviously everybody knows who Addie is, but she has a powerful back and she’s really embraced that role in a leadership position.” Echohawk adds, “She’s done a great job of being consistent and being a good team player even if she doesn’t get the results she wants.”
Osborne is committed to Rutgers college in New Jersey to play for their Division 1 softball team as a Scarlet Knight. She expresses her excitement as she not only looks forward to her college experience but also what she will do after college.”I don’t know what I want to study but I know I want to help people, or do some sorts of sports medicine, sports management, or sports journalism.”
As Osborne wraps up her time in Colorado and moves on from home base, she will always have her coaches, teammates, and friends at Erie supporting her through and through.
